05/09/19

With mobile payment volumes and transaction values soaring in Kenya, HF Group has innovated in this space by becoming the first bank in the region to launch a banking service on the WhatsApp platform this week.

Mobile payments are well-established in Kenya, with Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) data showing that mobile money transactions stood at KES3.98 trillion ($38.5 billion) last year, 10% up on 2017 and now equivalent to nearly half the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

HF Group Kenya, already the winner of multiple awards for product innovation, aims to be the leading integrated solutions enabler for the property industry, and has again moved to innovate in this space by launching a new WhatsApp banking service.

WhatsApp banking is one of many exciting new innovations in digital financial services, with the potential to mark a significant shift in how people manage the way they transact. When banking on the WhatsApp platform, the user never has to navigate away to a separate application or website to conduct a transaction. Instead, they can interact within the same WhatsApp messaging channel they use to engage with their community, making the experience of banking effortlessly seamless. This provides the ultimate user experience, and marks the start of an era in which users are able to manage their lives via one, convenient channel.

As one of the industry’s technology leaders, Anita Chege, Head of Digital Transformation at HF Group commented that: “with every exciting development in banking technology, we as fintech pioneers are are acutely aware that these channels could be abused by fraudsters. With this in mind, we at HF Group were determined not only to bring our customers the latest in customer experience innovation, but at the same time ensure that our customers receive market-leading security over this new channel.”

By partnering with Myriad to deliver a secure authentication service for banking transactions over WhatsApp, HF Group authenticates customers over an entirely independent, secure and separate channel to the WhatsApp channel – almost instantly, and without them having to navigate away.  No sensitive information, such as the user’s PIN, is shared or stored in the WhatsApp channel.

By building seamless and advanced Myriad security into their innovation from the ground up, HF Group have enabled security and trust underpins convenience and customer experience.  Myriad Connect is proud to support their innovative new service.
